Cinnamon Rolls

Every time we pass by the Cinnabon store my daughter would inhale  deep breath and say maa I love this smell. In return I would close my nose and move away from there as the pungent smell of the cinnamon  would drill my nostrils  and not a fan of this. I would stay far away from the store and my daughter would pick up her share of the rolls. I would sit and see her how she would enjoy every bite of this roll.

However, recently  I surprised my daughter  by making this rolls for her, believe me as the smell was coming she asked me what was I baking. She was so curious and she was so happy seeing her favorites getting baked in the oven. She enjoyed the whole lot and told me it was so soft and yummy. I made some small change like  I did not frost them on top after the rolls were baked as my daughter did not want it.

On going through  several websites on the internet and cook books  I have arrived here with this recipe.

Prep time:
Cook time:
Yields: 6 Cinnamon Rolls

Ingredients
Warm milk – ½ cup
White sugar – ¼  cup
2 tsp yeast
½  of an egg *
2 tbsp buttermilk
2 tbsp vegetable oil
¼ tsp vanilla extract
½ tsp salt
2– 2 ½  cups flour

*Just beat one egg and use half of that

Filling:
½  cup brown sugar
1 ½  tbsp cinnamon
1 tbsp cornstarch
¼  cup butter, softened

Method:

In a bowl, combine warm milk, white sugar, and yeast together. Let it  sit for 10 minutes.

Whisk in egg, buttermilk, oil, and vanilla.  First add in 2 cups of flour and continue mixing and adding flour  until dough is sticky but does not stick to your hands. On a lightly floured surface keep this dough and knead for 10 minutes.

Put this dough in a lightly oiled large bowl, cover and let rise for 2 hours.

Combine brown sugar, cinnamon, cornstarch, and butter in a bowl.

Roll dough into a  rectangle  and spread over the dough the brown sugar mixture. Also do not roll it very tight, as we have to allow the space for it to expand whilst baking.

Roll the dough  lengthwise and cut into 6 even rolls. Place in a lightly greased  baking pan. Cover and let rise for another hour. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Bake rolls for 15 - 20 minutes.

Serve with coffee or a cold glass of milk.
