Ragi or Finger Millet Malt

Serves : one mug

Time taken : 15minutes

Recently we had to fast for Guruvayur Ekadashi, absolutely no rice and hence I made this for my breakfast. Ragi malt was my favorite during childhood days. I used to love to have this in the morning before going to school. So healthy and a very filling  drink, my mom  used to add some coconut, sugar and milk and enoy this.

To tell you all frankly there is no measurements for the ingredients to make this, you can add more or less ragi powder or even make with full milk without adding any water or even for that matter your can add some powdered nuts into it. Just one note if you are giving kids, make it  little watery and let the malt be without any granuals as they can gulp it. However just to get you all a hold of this recipe how I made  is given below.

Infact I even made this malt for my daughter, Finger millet as such is very cold for the body. So it’s a perfect malt to have it during summers.

Ingredients:

1 tbsp red finger millet powder or ragi powder                                                                                                1 cup milk (if you need more  you may add)                                                                                                   ½ cup water                                                                                                                                                1 tbsp  sugar to your taste                                                                                                                      Coconut grated – about 1 tsp  or nuts of your choice (for garnish only)

Method:

·        Take a pan add ½ cup water  & the milk, put the fingermillet powder and mix it well with your hands so that there is no lumps in it.

·        Now light the gas and allow the mixture to boil in low flame. You  need to keep stirring till such time the mixture is  thick like smoothie consistency.  By now the mixture would have cooked well too. You can add more milk or water to adjust the level of your consistency.
·        You may garnish with nuts or coconut.
Enjoy this wonderful malt!!
