Falafel

One of the  famous fritters  made from chickpeas or feva beans across the Middle  East, it is either had like any other fritters as appetizer wrapped in a pita bread as sandwich.

We at home love to have this hot,  so crunchy and yummy they are, you can use hummus as a dip to have this.

Serves – 4 – 5 pax
Time Taken : 30minutes * excluding the soaking time

Ingredients

Oil for frying – as much as needed
1 small onion finely chopped
Coriander seeds – ½ tsp
Lemon  juice – 1 tsp
Pepper powder – ¼ tsp
2 garlic clove, crushed
½ cup chickpeas soaked
½ tsp Cumin seeds
Handful parsley finely chopped
Tahini Paste – 1 tbsp
Salt to taste
Chilli Powder – ¼ tsp
Baking soda – ¼ tsp
Sesame seeds – 1 tsp

Method

Wash and drain the chick pea and place in the mixer and crush them roughly and ensure all the chick pea is broken. Don’t not make it to a paste.

Add all the ingredients to the crushed chick pea and give it a good mixture together with your hands well and keep in the fridge for 15 minutes.

Make small golf size balls, then flatten them into patties.

Heat oil in wok/kadai. Drop 3 – 4 falafels at a time on medium heat  till they are golden brown and cooked from inside.

Remove and drain on a paper towel. Continue with the rest of the remaining mixture  of the falafels.

Serve hot with hummus dip.
